Philosophy

“I Believe No One Should Face the End of Life Alone”

I believe every person deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to have their wishes honored at the end of life. My role is to provide grounded, non-medical support that helps individuals and families navigate death, grief, and difficult transitions with advocacy, care, and respect.

End-of-life care is not only about supporting the person who is dying, but also supporting the people left behind. Having compassionate guidance during these moments creates space for individuals and families to process, grieve, and focus on what matters most.

My Path To This Work

When my father received a terminal cancer diagnosis, our lives changed very quickly. He lived over 1,000 miles away, and within five weeks I found myself navigating long-distance caregiving, advocating for his wishes, and helping manage the many emotional and practical responsibilities that come with death and dying.

I helped coordinate decisions, write his obituary, plan services, support family members, and sort through the belongings he left behind. Experiencing both grief and responsibility at the same time showed me how overwhelming and isolating those moments can feel, especially when families are separated by distance.

That experience deepened my belief that no one should face the end of life alone, and that the people left behind deserve compassionate support as well.

Rooted in Southern Traditions & Community

Living and working in the South has shaped my understanding of community, remembrance, ritual, and the many ways individuals and loved ones honor life and loss. Traditions surrounding memorials, celebrations of life, family tombs, columbariums, second lines, and communal remembrance reflect the deeply personal ways people create meaning during times of transition and grief.

Across the South, customs surrounding death and remembrance are often deeply connected to family history, culture, faith, music, and community. Navigating local traditions, burial practices, church cemeteries, and family memorial spaces can feel overwhelming without guidance or familiarity. I believe end-of-life care should honor each individual’s traditions, beliefs, and wishes while creating space for meaningful remembrance and connection.

Training & Background

Supporting others has always been an important part of who I am. Throughout my life, I have been drawn toward work centered around compassion, advocacy, care, and service to others.

After experiencing my father’s death and witnessing firsthand the emotional and practical challenges families face at the end of life, I chose to pursue formal training as an End-of-Life Doula through Lifespan Doulas in 2021. My training included end-of-life planning, non-medical support, advocacy, vigil support, grief support, and compassionate care practices.

My approach is rooted in both professional training and lived experience, allowing me to support individuals and families with empathy, practical guidance, and grounded care during difficult transitions.

Planning Support & Approach To Care

I approach end-of-life planning and care with compassion, honesty, and respect for each individual’s values, beliefs, and wishes. My role is not to direct decisions, but to provide support, advocacy, and presence during difficult transitions. I work alongside individuals, families, hospice providers, and care teams to help create space for dignity, connection, and meaningful moments at the end of life.

I provide both in-person support in the Greater New Orleans area and remote consultations for individuals and families seeking end-of-life planning and care guidance.

Every person’s wishes, beliefs, and priorities are different. Whether someone is seeking traditional arrangements, eco-friendly burial options, home vigils, legacy planning, or other personalized end-of-life preferences, I believe those choices deserve respect and thoughtful support. I am committed to helping individuals research, navigate, and advocate for the final wishes that matter most to them.
